I think if I was an art buff or a Renaissance historian this book would have been a lot more interesting, as Michelangelo lived through some turbulent Italian history and of course made great art. Everything else felt like slogging through a history textbook. I enjoyed reading it.

This book is like eatting carpet and anyone who liked is should be shot. Also, while dear Irving clearly heavily researched little Mickey’s life very intensively, it was almost too much.

That said, there’s a scene that is clearly more inspired by Frankenstein than history, and so elements like that certainly may make some people feel that it should be considered a “classic.

I think when rxtaz is put under the microscope with a mighty lense they end up coming across pretty douchy and ol’ Michelangelo is no exception. I can’t comment on how historically accurate it is but I’m inclined to give stone the benefit of the doubt.

Reading the novel forced me to look up every piece of artwork he did, and think about it. Although I really enjoyed learning things about Michelangelo and was fascinated by his portrayed passion and dedication, there were just too many dry, boring parts.
